Getting Your Health back into Balance
Not a one-size-fits-all approach
Part of our functional medicine approach involves evaluating and treating the body’s biochemical or metabolic imbalances. All systems and organs are linked together directly or indirectly. Therefore, it’s important to look closely at various patterns between organ systems and determine what underlying mechanisms are contributing to a person’s hormonal, nutritional and/or biochemical imbalances.
Lab Testing
Dr. Siegel frequently sees new patients who report that their lab results are normal, however, they are not functioning or feeling well.
It is important to understand that “normal” does not mean “optimal.” Most individuals who are feeling “unwell” will show “normal” results on a lab test, but in reality, these lab findings are a more accurate indication of their health having veered away from optimal functioning.
It is also common for patients to be inadequately tested. Many inflammatory markers are never considered when testing is ordered, thus many important indicators are not addressed when evaluating a patient’s health status.
Dr. Siegel’s clinical experience in ordering and interpreting labs has shown time and time again that while a person may not have yet progressed to a disease state, certain physiological systems are no longer functioning properly and are in a state of dysfunction. Through proper testing and analysis, Dr. Siegel can recommend appropriate nutrition and supplementation to bring about biochemical balance and get you feeling better.
Testing
At BioHealthOhio, we offer a wide variety of lab testing to evaluate and address imbalances, deficiencies and toxicities from which specific treatment protocols can be recommended. Testing is performed using various types of blood, urine and/or saliva tests. Test examples include:
The above tests can reveal hidden factors that are preventing your healing, such as:
*Blood glucose levels—glucose and oxygen are needed by the brain to function properly.
*Abnormal cortisol levels—can lead to insomnia, bone loss, weakened immune system and hormonal imbalances to name a few.
*Food sensitivities and/or allergies increase inflammation in your gut, brain and entire body. Here is a limited list of the types of symptoms that this increased inflammation can lead to: chronic pain or fatigue, frequent indigestion, bloating after eating, frequent loose bowel movements, constipation, mouth ulcers or sores, nausea/vomiting, headaches and joint/muscle pain and stiffness.
*Antibodies that indicate autoimmune disease and other immune imbalances.
*Leaky Gut Syndrome—a condition of altered or damaged bowel lining, caused by antibiotics, toxins, poor diet, parasites or infection.
*Abnormal male/female hormone levels – can lead to depression, fatigue, mental fogginess, mood swings, hot flashes, sweating attacks, weight gain, decreased physical stamina, etc.
*Chronic Inflammation—Most patients suffering from any sort of chronic health condition, such as diabetes, migraines, depression, fibromyalgia and more WILL have some form of chronic inflammatory process.
Treatment
Treatments are directed through the use of specifically-targeted nutritional protocols that have been determined to best address each patient’s unique and individualized biochemical needs.
It is NOT a one-size-fits-all approach, nor is it about loading a person up on excessive amounts of nutritional supplements. We work toward achieving biochemical balance and function with the minimum amount of nutritional supplementation and drastic dietary restrictions.
Nutritional Consulting specific for you!
All nutritional supplementation and dietary suggestions are customized to fit your individual needs based on lab results, food sensitivity testing and detailed consultations with Dr. Siegel.

Dr. Siegel will provide guidance that focuses on implementing sustainable dietary changes and nutritional supplementation that will significantly enhance your wellness journey.
Food & Environmental Sensitivity Testing
Dr. Siegel will use his Functional Toxicology method to evaluate a wide array of possible food and environmental sensitivities that could be contributing to your health struggles.
Even if you eat a clean, organic diet you may still struggle with health issues. Some people react to foods that are considered healthy. Eggs and almonds, while often recommended in healthy eating protocols, can be highly inflammatory to some.
Additionally, if you suffer from intestinal permeability—or leaky gut—you may react to everything. Without a strong intestinal barrier, even healthy nutrients can become toxic to your body. Taking measures to heal your gut will reduce your reactivity.
